What are Thread Veins?
Thread veins, spider veins, broken capillaries medically known as telangiectasias are dilated capillary veins less than 2mm in diameter. They are small blue to red appearing blood vessels that lie close to the surface of the skin and occur either in lines or thread like patterns.
Does Laser Vein Removal hurt?
Most clients experience mild discomfort and heat . To ease any discomfort for clients a DCD cooling spray is applied to the skin at all times during your laser vein removal treatment.

To determine your suitability for Laser Vein Removal treatment a patch test and consultation will be required prior to your treatment. Protective eye goggles are worn by client and the laser specialist during treatment. The DCD/Cooling spray is applied during the treatment, Aloe Vera gel and ice packs will be applied to the area after treatment.
How long does Laser Vein Removal treatment take?
Laser Vein Removal treatment takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Legs or larger veins may take longer.
How many treatments will I need?

What results can I expect?
Veins will fade over 2-4 weeks post Laser Vein Removal treatment. Each case is different and results depend on a variety of factors. Thread veins / spider veins that have been treated do not reappear, however new vessels may show up on the surface which can be then treated. However, conditions such as Rosacea can cause new veins to appear at some point making further treatment necessary.
What areas can be treated?
Laser thread vein removal treatment is used for skin concerns on the face, legs and body. Common areas treated include red veins on the face typically seen on the nose, cheeks and chin. Laser Vein Removal is also a highly effective laser treatment for rosacea, venous lake on lip area and cherry angiomas on body areas.
Can I prevent them from re-occurring?
Protecting the skin from the sun and free radical damage by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with UVA & UVB protection and the antioxidant Vitamin C is an important part of helping to prevent new thread veins from forming. Avoiding hot and cold extremes such as sauna, steam, hot showers is also recommended.
How long is the recovery period / down time?
Most clients can return to work and normal daily activities on the same day. Generally, we recommend having some time off after treatment to cool the area. Depending on the size and extent of areas being treated recovery may vary to a few hours to a few days. Veins can appear darker after treatment before they fade over a few days. Following treatment, it is advised to cool the treated areas at regular intervals with cool packs.
Is there any down time or post recovery period?
After effects are usually short term and can include darkening of veins treated, redness, slight swelling, puffiness which can last from a few hours to a few days. The larger the veins and more concentration of veins in an area may cause swelling. Adverse reactions and risks are rare but can occur. Adhering to your aftercare advice will reduce any potential risks and adverse reactions.

Thread Vein Treatment Aftercare Factsheet
After the treatment it is common for the area to feel slightly warm or even hot. Some clients experience local swelling, erythema, redness, bruising, crusting, scabbing, vascular oedema, purpura, darkening of the vessel, or mild tenderness. These symptoms may appear immediately or a few days after treatment. The use of 100% Aloe Vera and a cold compress/ice pack/cool pack is recommended directly after the treatment and for a few days if necessary.
Some darkening of the veins may occur throughout the treatment area. This is a normal and expected reaction, indicating a successful treatment and will fade in the coming weeks.
For 4 Weeks After Treatment
- You should avoid exposure to UV light i.e. sun-beds and sun bathing.
- A high SPF50+ factor should be applied when outside. Excessive exposure can cause hypo or hyper pigmentation of the skin.
For the next 48 hours
Avoid all heat treatments such as:
- Steam Rooms
- Saunas
- Hot Baths
- Hot showers
- Excessive exercise / swimming
- Hairdryers
- Avoid all perfumed creams, soaps and lotions on the treatment area
- Do not touch pick or scratch the area
- Avoid excessively spicy foods and alcohol
- Avoid extremes of hot and cold
- Avoid exfoliation products (chemical or abrasive) for 10-14 days after treatments
An ice-cold compress can be applied if the area feels hot or uncomfortable.
